Demon Slayer ( Season 1 Episode 1 ) Critical Summary

 Cruelty - 

The narrative starts with a family , a mother who is a widow and has six kids. 

   

   Tanjiro, the oldest sibling, prepares to go for the town to sell charcoal, which was their main source of income. Singero and Hanako, his younger siblings, wants to accompany him, but their mother says it would be hard for him to carry them because they were to rest on the carriage. Tanjiro requests the help of his younger brother Takeo to prepare the firewood.

    He gets to engage with his younger sister Nezuko before he leaves. She was accompanied by a sleeping Rokuta. She bids him farewell, and he continues on to complete his sales. He asserts that life is similar to the weather as neither summer nor the winter lasts forever. This proves that tough times are seldom permanent. 

    Many people came to buy the charcoal when he arrived at the town, which was far distant since he had to descend a mountain, and he made big sales. He used to assist a variety of people with their work. He had a keen sense of smell, it was said. While he was conversing with another client, another man asked him to sniff the shattered dishes so he could show his mother that he wasn't responsible for the damage. 

   He goes back to his house after his sales. He met Mr. Saburo when he was returning home in the late hours. He insisted that he spent the night with him since it was said that demons that consumed humans prowled the area after sundown. He agrees to stay with him later on, after being first hesitant. He keeps thinking about the circumstances at home at night and reassures himself that these rumours are untrue. He also recalls the occasion when his grandma told him the rumours. He departs for his home the next morning.  

   He had an odd feeling as he was returning, and the air smelled like blood. When he saw his sister Nezuko and his infant brother Rokuta under her arms, submerged in a pool of blood, he stopped and ran as quickly as he could.

   He rushes to them to assist them, shocked and absolutely destroyed. Additionally, he witnesses the death of his mother, brother, and sisters. As he sees his family dead, uncontrollable tears start to fall. 

   He chooses to help Nezuko since only her body radiated warmth. He started to overthink as he pondered how such a dire circumstance could have arisen. He thinks about the potential for a bear assault. Nezuko is beginning to regain consciousness as he runs back in the hope of getting to the town as quickly as possible. She screamed and started to move vociferously. He collapses after slipping on the ice. He was kept safe by the ice and unharmed.

  Nezuko is standing far away while he searches for her. He approached her, worried, and asked how she was doing. He observed large, red eyes staring straight at him. She charged at him with the intention of eating him. 

   He battles her after realising that she is under the demon's control. She got bigger and more powerful as he was fighting her. What separates their struggle is a wooden stick; he is on the ice with his back to her, she is on top of him....
